Is it possible to translate inc files with Trados? Thread poster: Elvira Stoianov
|
I have received some files from a client and I am still busy with something else and haven't had time to analyze the issue, so I was wondering if anyone knows if I can process inc files (I think they are include files for a web page) with Trados (preferably 6.5).
Thank you. | | | Jerzy Czopik Germany Local time: 07:57 Member (2003) Polish to German + ... Quoting the FileFormatsRef_T65 | Dec 14, 2005 |

OVERVIEW
You can translate HTML, XML and SGML files directly with a minimum of preparation using Translator’s Workbench and TagEditor. This chapter describes the HTML, XML and SGML
translation process.
It explains the role of the DTD settings file in processing these file types and shows you how to use the DTD Settings Wizard to create and edit DTD settings files.
Supported ML File Formats
TRADOS provides explicit support for the following ML file formats:
- HTML documents (HTM, HTML) up to version 4.0, including any derivatives such as Active Server Pages (ASP), Active Server.NET (ASP.NET), ASP.NET (ASPX and ASCX), Java Server
Pages (JSP), Include files (INC) and PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) files.
- SGML documents (SGM, SGML).
- XML documents (XML, XSL). XML files with unrecognized file extensions are also supported as long as the file includes the XML declaration, (?xml version='1.0'...?), and the extension
does not conflict with file extensions for other supported file types.
Kind regards
Jerzy

Why not make some of the files available to us, then we'll have a look? A yousendit.com URL addressed to yourself should do nicely. | | | Semantix AB (X) Sweden Local time: 07:57 English to Swedish + ... rename to *.htm | Dec 14, 2005 |

Thank you.
Hi Elvira,
A quick fix to .inc files is often to rename the extention to .htm, using any freeware batch renamer.
Most of the time it works, provided you translate them in TagEditor.
After the cleanup, simply rename back to *.inc.
The "proper" way though, is to read through the material posted by Jerzy above...

Sorry for not researching myself, but I had to hand in a school report and I didn't have time to search myself and I wanted to make sure I don't have any problems with the files, as the deadline I have received is rather short.
I could open the files in TagEditor without any problem. I actually thought I would have to convert them to html.
