Manual cleanup of the Word document - find and replace all hidden characters with nothing.
How to do it step by step:
1. Tools -> options -> [display tab] check the "hidden text" or "all" formatting marks checkbox.
2. Then Find and Replace:
Press "more".
For "find" box press format -> font -> check "hidden"
Then enter in the "find what?" line "^?" (without the ")

All Trados hidden characters should disappear.
The only exception is in some title rows of tables, where the source text may not have been hidden and will remain.
Good luck. ▲ Collapse | | | RWSTranslati (X) Germany Local time: 01:01 German to English + ... Deleting of hiffen text | Nov 9, 2005 |
Hello,
if you manual delete all hidden text, you maybe will delete other hidden texts too (maybe index entries).

Thank you for the help, now the document is a little bit better but still having to much garbage ;(
Some Trados marks has "normal" fonts like the text. A disaster!
What can I have missing?
I can see all the Hidden text but i can not translate some sentences till I check "Field Codes" in the options, after that I can translate everything and the references contained are simply copy from source to target, but by cleaning WB says that some start tags are missing ????
Thank you anyway

Hi Toledo,
Nope, I don't mean write the whole thing again but if nearly all of the translation was confirmed to Trados why don't you just translate a copy of the original with the TM you created?
About missing segement marks, what you can try next time is copy a good pair and paste it next to the damaged segment then copy paste the text into the new segment.
To do this you'll have to have Display Hidden Text active.

If I make "Returns" before and after this references I can translate but it is a big document and the sentences are so cut (mutilated) and it is a lot of work to translate sentences where the verb is in an other place (German)

Hi Toledo,
Did you try with the Word-macro tw4winclean ? It normally works well.

It clean what can be cleaned but the other segments (with the references) are still "Kaputt"
I try some of the Macros, like prepare DCF, subsegments, and some others but nothing.
So I resume.
If a check "Fields codes" in the View options in Word I can translate all, I see the references number into brackets (I copy&paste it manually into the target segment) and all seems to be good, but by cleaning WB says NO! "missing start tags in some segments (the segments with references)
If I do not check this field, Trados stop in each segment that contain a reference. Placing a paragraph mark before this sentences do not help anyway.
only dividing the sentences, separating this references as individual paragraphs help but I hope there is another way or?

I would do the same thing!
If you experience this kind of problem before cleaning the document, you can always try to use "Fix Document" in the TRADOS menu in Word.

Hi,
AS I said all TUs containing references (index) are korrupt, can not be cleaned, normally if there is a index inside a TU, Trados open a TU (subsegement) inside this TU, but in my case, Trados stop translating and only over the workaround "Field Codes" activ can I open it but the translation can later not be cleaned.
Creating a copy of the original is not satisfactory
It is a big manual with Table of Contains, images , references to the images and so.
Of course I tried the repair it with the funtion "Fix Document", Niente, Nada
Thks
