That translation means converting the written word from one language to another, not the spoken word.

Translating an idiom, it's more that translating characters, words, phrases or full texts!!
Involves hard work, knowledge, study, search, expressions spoked to different cultures, the emotions to then, my emotions and feelings at translating each text, the sensation of satisfaction of each work concluded...
Translating an idiom is fantastic, and I want to be valued for to do this! And you?!

I don't particularly care whether "others" understand my work as a translator. Not unless they're clients, in which case they should understand all those things already.

The mere fact that I am a retired English-woman, broadcast engineer, translator, editor and publisher formerly employed by a well-known international organisation based in Geneva, now living in one of the poorest rural areas of Chile does not 'obviously mean' that I 'must be terribly keen' to teach English to any of the local folks. Time and again I have had to explain that teaching English as a foreign language is a profession in its own right, and I simply do not have the knowledge, skills, methodology - or the mindset - it requires.
The mere fact that (as above...) does not 'obviously mean' that I am able and willing to translate anything under the Chilean sun (websites, undergraduate thesis, ... - you name it!) into English (usually US or Canadian variety) - AND forego any payment because I 'obviously' don't need the money (otherwise how could I possibly afford my 'obviously' independent upper-middle class life-style).
Being (as above...) among a local population of around 20 thousand where I am (AFAIK) the only native UK English speaker ain't always plain sailing. But I take retirement very seriously.
