Yes, once Jan 11

A few months ago, my email account was hacked and a spam message with a potential project was sent to all my contacts. Fortunately, it was detected quickly and I act immediately.

Not that I know of Jan 11

In the infancy of the internet the danger was from brainless vandals writing 'for fun' (aka 'For the Lulz') malware that would wipe out your hard drive or make your computer unusable in some other obnoxious ways - the presence of malware was unmistakable and immediately noticeable.

Nowadays, writing malware is a serious business and it's designed to remain undetected as long as possible, so often you simply do not / can not know until or unless there is something you can't not notice, like an empty bank account, or people complaining about spam coming from you.

To put it in plain English sans tourner autour du pot those who say 'No, never' haven’t got the first clue what they are talking about. In fact it is practically IMPOSSIBLE to know for sure.

Counter-question to ProZ site staff Jan 11

Has ProZ ever been hacked?

Whilst I sincerely hope not, given the hopelessly amateurish way in which ProZ is upgrading the site, coupled with its uninformed dabbling in AI and some of the so-called job ads and fake user profiles it's allowing on the site, ProZ looks like a prime target for a hack.

PROZ, GET YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER BEFORE THIS HAPPENS

Few years ago some Smart Alec made a mirror site under a name confusingly similar to proz.com. That copied site didn't last long. That wasn't really 'a hack' - they just copied in bulk the public part of the site - but was as much obnoxious.

Nowadays the potential source of troubles is more what you called 'uninformed dabbling in AI',

Well... Jan 13

Many chinese phones come with some sort of spying software. Yesterday my mom talked about mouse traps and 10 minutes later there was an ad about it on my facebook.

You're barking up the wrong tree. The 'spying software' you're talking about is 'Made by Google' - aka the Android operating system. The whole Android OS exists primarily to help Google in selling ads - anything that hinders Google in selling ads gets expelled from the Android OS under one spurious pretext or another.

I you have an iPhone it's not any better. Nor is Microsoft and its Windows 11.
