Depends on the language. I speak them all at work of course. I speak Russian at home. German with friends and when I travel to Germany. English when I travel somewhere else.

Where do you speak the official language of your country?
I am not a paid member of proz, that is why I cannot post any poll.
But the poll is very interesting, for in my country people mostly speak Russian (70 %), and the official language is Ukrainian.
Could anyone post the question?

I speak all of them at work, but I speak Spanish at home and Spanish/Catalan in the neighbourhood and city. I speak Spanish with my inlaws and Spanish friends and English with my own family and English-speaking friends. So it all depends on who I'm talking to!

Other.
I speak Danish at home and just about everywhere, except when I am travelling; in other words, I live in Denmark and Danish is my language of habitual usage.
I do not actually speak my other source languages, Swedish and Norwegian, at all!
And I often have difficulty in understanding the spoken languages... I get people to send mails or speak English.
I speak my target language, English, when I travel and whenever I get the chance!

Translating from English into French means I read English all day, sometimes even write it, but I don't get to speak it at all at work.
Fortunately, I met Happy People (http://hp26.lei-web.com/), a wonderful group that aims to make foreigners and French natives meet in Valence (France).

I speak - though still learning - 3 Native American languages with those of that nation.
I'm trying to learn/speak the local language, at least a little, everywhere else, e. g. Suaheli in Kenya, Greek in Greece etc. Even if it's only a few common phrases, this attempt to learn opens many doors. ▲ Collapse

At work I speak both Spanish and English, but at home my husband and I started speaking English when we wanted to say things that our kid should't hear. Then we got used to it and started using it more often. Our son is learning it now and is trying to speak with us.. We mix both languages at home, Croatian being more frequent..

I speak mostly Portuguese here in Rio, unless I'm talking on Skype to friends in the USA. I really don't know many English-speaking people here. Even on Facebook, my communications are more in Portuguese than in English. Occasionally I'll even forget a word in English, and I've been known to talk to myself and dream in Portuguese sometimes, too.

I speak Spanish with Spanish-speaking friends, people who work for me, Mexicans when I go there (I live 20 minutes from the border and go down often). There are a lot of Spanish-speaking people in San Diego. I used to speak it in the office back in Washington, DC, but not since I retired.
I speak Portuguese with my family when we get together, Brazilian friends, Brazilians in Brazil when I go there.
