Company using our information Thread poster: USTranslation

I wanted to let as many people know as possible that there is another company out there using a name similar to ours and a website address similar to us, but they are NOT U.S. Translation Company. I've been contacted by three translators now asking if this is a legitimate company and I'd hate for translators to take their assignments and be stuck without payment! USTranslation United States Local time: 06:54 English TOPIC STARTER Yes, we have contacted them. | Feb 7, 2011 |
We did email them and sent them a Cease and Desist Order. We have received a reply that they will take the site down, but we've given them 48 hours to comply or we take further action. If you have received a job from them, do not take it! They are not our company and not a legitimate business. Thanks! Kathy

Personally I would start a support ticket with Proz.com for advice as to whether this situation could be reflected in the Blueboard in some way, so that proz.com members do not get fooled by the fake company. I don't know what the best approach would be. It is best to ask Proz.com about it. Good luck and thanks for the information! It really amazes me to see how cheeky people can be. In my opinion, you shouldn't have warned them and would have sued them immediately. That would teach... The positive point in this story is that, knowing the local realities, you were able to spot this copy-cat early enough (hopefully).

Kudos to the Proz.com staff - when one looks at US Translation's Blue Board, there is already a warning against the phantom company with a link to the appropriate BB entry. And curiously enough, those "old friends" (meaning the scammers) never give it up as it seems. They have mile-long records under various and infamous names.

USTranslation United States Local time: 06:54 English TOPIC STARTER They have removed our information | Feb 8, 2011 |
I wanted to let you know that this "phantom company" has removed the information that was similar to ours and has completely put up a site that looks different than before. I guess they just have webpages "laying round." Unfortunately, this most likely means that they have targeted someone else, but hopefully not. I appreciate it when translators that have never worked with us before ask about how long we have be... I appreciate it when translators that have never worked with us before ask about how long we have been in business and how many translators we work with and how we pay. So, please keep that in mind if a company has contacted you that you don't know. Thanks again! Kathy Sprouse ▲ Collapse
