Credit Card via Paypal Jan 10, 2010

humbird,

It is possible to accept credit card payments via paypal. There are fees involved, but I did this for a large job where the client had specifically requested to pay via credit card and found that it was worth my while.

I don't think PayPal's fees are so high, considering how convenient the service is, and I've also had very pleasant experiences with customer service on the phone. Once when I had a problem they were very helpful and friendly.

I never had problems the few times I contacted CS. The usual wait, but very helpful operators once you get on live-talk.

The fees are more or less like Moneybooker's, as I could see from the MB-site. A big advantage is the PayPal debit/Mastercard, which gives you 1% back of the total of your monthly expenses when used as credit not debit. So actually, the fee for the payment is less 1%. As far as I understand, MB does not have a credit card....correct me if I am wrong! And I write off the remaining fees.

I have never, as others have written, had problems transferring funds to my checking account, and I do not have any limits of transfer. It is fast and sufficient!

I forgot to mention the e-check option that PayPal offers. Fee is a fixed US$ 5.00, no matter the amount received. A great option, but unfortunately not possible from all countries...

Moneybookers rulez May 31, 2010

Long time ago, I have tried to open a PayPal account, only to find out in great disappointment that they do not operate in my country (Serbia).

For a fair number of years I have kept sending them emails, trying to encourage them to expand their business a little. What a waste of time!

Then, on one sunny day, I have discovered Moneybookers - and have been their fan ever since!

Just look at the figures:
- they charge 1% (up to 0.50 EUR!!!) for sending

Then, on one sunny day, I have discovered Moneybookers - and have been their fan ever since!

Just look at the figures:
- they charge 1% (up to 0.50 EUR!!!) for sending money
- receiving money is FREE
- uploading money from a bank account is FREE
- for the withdrawal to the bank account they charge a fix amount of 1.80 EUR

I am positive that PayPal will never beat these T&C!

Wire transfer is also unacceptably expensive, at least where I come from. Furthermore, the fees are pretty variable from bank to bank, and all agencies have somehow agreed that the fees should ALWAYS be deducted from translator's earnings (they have never even tried to suggest sharing the expenses!).

P.S. The only problem with MB is that they recently have mysteriously become unavailable for USA clients and agencies. I have searched the Net for a while, but couldn't find out neither the reason nor the official approval of any such action.
