Hi there.

am I the only one who manages to get paid by e-cheque using PayPal? For those who are unfamiliar with it, an e-cheque is a way of getting a payment from PayPal for a fixed charge of $5. I always use it for my clients in the States (I am in the UK).
I have been trying to explain how it works to a couple of Italian colleagues, but they are having huge problems with it (or maybe their clients are lazy/dense:).

If you do use it, can you post what you do, so that I can let these unfortunate people being hit by ginormous charges know. Obviously I can't explain the procedure well enough... Unless there is a problem with Italy in general (and that would NOT surprise me...:)

No, let's have it public... Nov 18, 2009

It works for me, but a colleague has just written to me saying he has not managed to get his client to do it. €40 worth of charges later he is getting the money:(
There must be an inbuilt difficulty somewhere... but as I said, I do get them nae bother (as they say here).

Andrea

PS this is in reply to Claudio's post below... sorry for the confusion...

They charge $5 for the transaction (and whatever that turns out to be in € o £), which is a ***significant improvement*** better than 3.4%, especially for sums over say $150, never mind $1500!!!

Parts between *** have been edited because considered unbecoming if not outright offensive

This is the best method to be paid through Paypal, Nov 18, 2009

because no matter how much you receive, you only pay 5 USD (or its equivalent), instead of the usual Paypal percentage fee (of 4% or something like that of the total sum received). The drawback here is that you have to wait a number of days, until Paypal will check that everything is OK with that payment.

But… as far as I remember, a company is only able to pay by e-cheque, if its bank account works with PayPal (for example, I only got paid by Paypal e-cheques by USA and Canada ba

Perhaps a better alternative for payments from Europe would be Moneybookers.

A matter of awareness Nov 18, 2009

Some time ago I received a payment via PP made by an outsourcer who was not aware about this option.

The amount was remarkable, so the fee I was charged by the system was very high. I could not explain him where the option was, because for some reason my account has not it.

Thanks to Andrea who sent me some screenshots, I could show my client at what point he had to select the eCheque option.

My client now kows, but what about all the others?

Another issue is: why that option is not available in my account? I could not find an answer. Do you know?

Thanks

...it depends on whether or not:
1) you have a card linked to your account (in which case it doesn't work)
2) the transaction is deemed too risky (not clear what it means)

I am ever so puzzled that I have written to them asking for clarifications (I think this is something we all need to know). I shall post their reply once I get it.

However, it beggars belief that they have to make it so difficult... I mean if the facility is there make it clear how it can be used.

Hopefully things in Italy will change soon....mah

Query on e-cheques Nov 18, 2009

How does this e-cheque work?
Do both parties have to have PP accounts, or just the sender?
If both not required, in what form is the e-cheque received? What can be done with it?
Remember, there are some countries whose credit/debit cards PP does not recognize for establishing PP accounts, but joyfully assesses such cards for application fee charges, etc.

Thanks for contacting PayPal. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you
with your questions.

Ms. Re, if I understand you correctly you would like to know more about
echeck as your funding source. Rest assured that I'll be doing my best to
assist you further on your concern.

When an eCheck payment is sent, we must make an electronic transfer of
funds between financial institutions. These payments are also called Bank
Funding transfers.

* A bank funded payment is NOT a wire transfer; it is a group of
payments that are batched together at one institution and sent to an
automated clearing house
* At the automated clearing house, all of the transactions in the batch
will be segregated according to the destination bank to which they were
sent
* An electronic message will be sent to each bank account to ensure
that the account number is valid and that the account is open. Once
confirmed, the funds will be sent to the destination institutions

When you send money via eCheck, PayPal will debit your bank account for the
full payment amount, regardless of your PayPal account balance.

* The funds will be debited from your bank account as soon as the
payment is initiated
* An eCheck payment usually takes 7-9 working days to complete
* If the transfer is delayed at some point during the processing of the
electronic transfer, the transaction could take up to fifteen working days
to complete

You may view the Expected Clearing Date of your eCheck on the 'Transaction
Details' page. To view the Expected Clearing Date, log in to your account,
click the 'History' tab, and click the 'Details' of the transaction.

Please note:

* An eCheck payment is different than Instant Transfer as an eCheck is
not an instant payment
* An Instant Transfer sends the money to the recipient's account
immediately, because it has a back up funding source in case the transfer
fails

It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing PayPal.

Sincerely,
Jinna
