De acuerdo a Aguirre et al. (2003), los invertebrados son probablemente el grupo de animales más diverso y con mayor riqueza de endemismos en las islas del Pacífico de Baja California, sin embargo son los menos conocidos. Muy pocos estudios se han llevado a cabo sobre los invertebrados terrestres de estas islas, particularmente en las Islas Coronado. Es probable que se han evolucionados algunos taxa de invertebrados endémicos en las Islas Coronados dados el efectivo aislamiento de la mayoría de las especies no voladoras y hasta muchas de las voladoras. Los invertebrados son clave en la red trófica de los anfibios, reptiles y algunas aves terrestres de las islas y también son importantes como herbívoros y detritívoros. La realización de un inventario sistemático de los invertebrados terrestres en los distintos ecosistemas terrestres darán información importante para la mayor valoración de la diversidad y el entendimiento de la función de estos ecosistemas.
