This is from a study of mindfulness interventions with cancer patients. I think I must be missing something as "alteración en el concepto de sí misma" appears to be negative whereas the text is speaking about the benefits of mindfulness. I am assuming the last part is "concept of the self". Any ideas?

FWIW A change in self-perception/self-concept can be either positive or negative. Cancer may cause a (negative) alteration of self-perception/self-concept. If you consider breast cancer, for example, the affected women may suffer from extremely distorted self-perception and body-image after undergoing mastectomy. Mindfulness interventions may (or may not) be able to correct such distortions and change (back) self-perception/self-concept towards normal.

shift in self-perception

At the risk of splitting hairs, I think that that "shift" really works better than "changes" here, given that the word connotes a sudden and qualitative change of the kind seemingly referred to here.

"Shifting self-perception" is also commonly used in psychological contexts.

Self-perception theory posits that people determine their attitudes and preferences by interpreting the meaning of their own behavior. Critcher and Gilovich looked at whether people also rely on the unobservable behavior that is their mindwandering when making inferences about their attitudes and preferences.
