Emergency or famine foods - although normally contributing little to the overall diet, can play a critical part in the survival during periods of food scarcity. Поділяються на 4 категорії: normally eaten, become more important during times of stress; less preferred foods, used very occasionally under normal circumstances; starvation foods, eaten only during periods of stress; hunger supressants and thirst quenchers.
