Texto de origem - inglês With the benefit of hindsight, the obvious thing to have done during that period would have been to hold equities until the April peak, to have sold out of the market until July and then bought back in. Obvious, maybe, but almost impossible to do and also, as it happens, the exact opposite of what actually happened.
Data running until the end of May show that fund flows into US mutual funds over the period were broadly neutral in February, positive in March and April when the market was at its recent peak and then sharply negative in May when the market had already fallen to close to its low-point for the past half year.
No-one who has watched the ebb and flow of investor interest in the stock market over the years will be surprised by this. It is a sad fact that we are hard-wired to want to invest when everyone is most excited about the market outlook (and prices are, therefore, high) and to run for cover when stocks are out of favour (and so cheap).
Looking further back at the fund flow data during and after the financial crisis, a similar pattern emerges. Money moved out of the market when it had already fallen towards the autumn 2008 and March 2009 low points and, crucially, most of it did not come back during the rapid rise in markets in the middle of last year.
Why are we so bad at controlling our emotions, rushing for the exits just as markets turn the corner and head upwards again? It is all to do with a psychological characteristic of investors called “loss aversion”. It means that we care much more about losing money than we enjoy the thought of gaining it. This asymmetry of emotional response means we are almost guaranteed to do the wrong thing if we try and time the market.
Some research by our colleagues in the US has recently calculated the real dollar cost of this tendency. By analysing the returns of investors during the financial crisis, it can be shown that the best performance was achieved by those investors who simply stuck with their exposure to the market and carried on paying into their retirement accounts month by month through the market gyrations.
In fact, these types of investors did around three times better than those who sold out in September 2008 and returned to the market too late to enjoy much of the market rise. They outperformed even more the group of investors which exited the market at the height of the turmoil and stayed out.
When markets are bouncing around and the headlines are screaming at you the temptation is to do something, no matter what it is. Sometimes the best thing you can do is nothing at all. An investor who had simply stayed put through those big swings since February would be 6% up in half a year – and most of us would settle for that.

Texto de origem - inglês THE FIRE OF 1992 AND ITS RESTORATION
In 1992 a fire raged for 15 hours badly damag¬ing Windsor Castle. The initial spark ignited a curtain in the private chapel of the Upper Ward, spreading fire through the organ and into the roof space. Nine major state rooms were damaged and the Queen later proclaimed 1992 her "annus horribilis".
A £40 million five-year restoration project re¬turned the Castle to its former glory. The restoration was completed on the Queen's 50th wedding an¬niversary. The Queen is said to have remarked that the restoration of Windsor Castle was the best an¬niversary present she could have wished for. The Crimson Drawing Room was completely restored and Wyatville's original hanging ceiling pinned to prevent the chandelier from swaying. St George's Hall now boasts the largest oak hammer beam roof to have been constructed in the 20th century. Wy¬atville's flat plaster ceiling having collapsed, the new appearance is lighter and complements the heraldic decoration of shields representing every Garter Knight created. The redesigned private chapel of the Royal Family commemorates the fire of 1992 in a specially commissioned stained glass window.
WINDSOR CASTLE TODAY
Windsor Castle today remains as the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world but the castle is also a functioning royal home and an important place for royal family events. In 1999 Prince Edward married Sophie Rhys-Jones in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Prince Charles was also due to marry his second wife Camilla Parker Bowles at a civil ceremony at Windsor Cas¬tle; after the wedding service a further religious blessing was planned to take place at St. George's Chapel where his younger brother Edward had married. However, under English law because the performing of a civil marriage ceremony at Wind¬sor Castle would have meant that the venue would then have had to be made available to all members of the public wishing to be married there, Prince Charles' and Camilla Parker Bowles' wedding had to be subsequently changed to the town hall of the town of Windsor, Windsor Guildhall. The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh attended the service of blessing and held a reception for the newly-weds in Windsor Castle but did not attend the marriage ceremony itself. The Queen's absence from the civ¬il marriage ceremony was undoubtedly due to her position as Supreme Governor of the Church of England.
