~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (1) What else are ProZ.com members up to? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ProZ.com members are working on all kinds of creative and worthwhile projects in, around, and even outside of translation. In previous newsletters we have looked at translators who are also musicians (more to come on that), translators providing training to other translators, translators publishing books, and translators helping to spread health and medical information to those in need through volunteer translation.
In this month's newsletter, we will take a look at more translators who are making an impact on colleagues with their endeavors. Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (2) The bright side of translation ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Freelance translators today can face many challenges. Sometimes, whether you have been in the business for a while or are just getting started, the outlook can seem grim.
But a good number of language professionals are not just surviving, but thriving. They are doing work that they love, collaborating positively with trusted colleagues and clients, making the most of changes in technology and the language industry, and setting and reaching their own income goals.
A new initiative has been set in motion by ProZ.com members Nicole Y. Adams -- http://www.proz.com/translator/117097 -- and Andrew Morris -- http://www.proz.com/translator/985013 -- to bring together stories about translators who are actively taking their careers to new levels; stories told by the translators themselves.
"The Bright Side of Freelance Translation" will be a free e-book that showcases these translators, their stories, and approaches to meeting freelance translators' challenges head-on. Visit the Bright Side site to see more and to subscribe to receive the e-book when it is released.

But if you are a Trados user, you may be more interested in memorizing and remembering the periodic table of Trados shortcuts, created by ProZ.com member Pieter Beens -- http://www.proz.com/translator/1419293 . ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (6) Localization spotlight: the Japanese localization team ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Each month, the ProZ.com newsletter features an article highlighting one of the ProZ.com localization teams and the work they are doing to bring the ProZ.com site to their native languages.
This month's spotlight is on the the Japanese localization team:
Yasu Hosomatsu -- http://www.proz.com/profile/576508 Michiko Tsumura -- http://www.proz.com/profile/133079 Peishun CHIANG -- http://www.proz.com/profile/61042 Miho Campbell -- http://www.proz.com/profile/3856 MamiY -- http://www.proz.com/profile/882644 Takafumi Miyauchi -- http://www.proz.com/translator/1503832
Michiko Tsumura had this to say about the team's work:
"I first volunteered to be on the Japanese localization team to gain more experience. I soon realized that it was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my career as a freelance translator. Not only for gaining experience in translation, but also helping me to connect with other team members, have a better understanding of the site and the services it offers and increase business opportunities."
If you are a ProZ.com member and you would like to join a localization team in your native language, contact site staff to volunteer.
