I imagine it's generically some "drilling" species beetle, es decir un escarabajo xilófago.

agree John Speese : Yes, and there are many different kinds, so I guess the only way to determine exactly which one it is would be to have the Latin name.

Woodboring Beetle

I thought that this is probably what makes the most sense, especially since I saw a webpage that apparently had a plague of them.

Hope this helps.

The first page is where I understood "barrenero", and it was only a step to go from drilling/boring to drilling/boring beetle.
