Las personas extranjeras con visado de estudios podrán ser autorizadas para realizar actividades lucrativas laborales. Dichas actividades deberán ser compatibles con la realización de estudios, y los ingresos obtenidos no podrán tener el carácter de recurso necesario para su sustento o estancia.

Foreigners with a student visa may be authorized to work for profit. Employment should be compatible with their studies and income earned may not be used as a sole means of support or stay.

I agree with Jessica. It's not just that work income shouldn't be the sole means, it shouldn't be necessary at all (living expenses should be completed covered by means other than paid work.)

Moreno Me gusta excepto "stay". Can you find something more adecuate for "support and stay". Like (example only): bare living expenses?

A slip of the button. After review I think "employment" should be "work" and "may" should be "should".

income may not be deemed as the sole source of support/ of room and board /of living expenses

I prefer 'support' because it implies room and board and other living expenses.
Also I would change 'profit' to 'pay' or to 'wages'.
