"materias" is very common for referring to "subects"
"dictar" is one way of stating teaching

Subjects lectured
I would associate "dictar una clase" with a university context, i.e., giving a lecture. So "dictar una materia" would be to "lecture a course or a subject", because "lecturing" is specific for University teaching. The subjects listed, and the places where the person taught, would indicate if this is correct or not.
