Se trata de una tradición que se realiza en Guatemala para la Semana Santa. Los católicos organizan procesiones en las que llevan en "andas" las imágenes de Jesús y de la Virgen María. Los vecinos de las calles en donde pasa la procesión hacen alfombras (del ancho de la calle) de aserrín, frutas y flores para que las procesiones pasen sobre ellas.

agree teju : Lo unico que cambiaria es eso de carpets. O diria "make their way over streets carpeted with flowers" o "make their way over strets covered with flowers".

agree AnnKB22 : I like "leave the churches" and teju's suggestion "make their way over streets carpeted with flowers." Covered loses the alfombra meaning of the source text.
