Change log

Dec 17, 2008 18:16: Alka Kumar changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Dec 29, 2008 15:48: Lalit Sati Created KOG entry

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Vimal Panchal, Lalit Sati, Alka Kumar

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

The same idea would be expressed as मेरी सुहानी नींद टूट जाती है or रात में सुहानी नींद से मैं जाग उठती हूँ

(Hum) Jaagay Raat Suhaani (जागे रात सुहानी) = (I am) awaken in pleasent night

"Jaage" = Awaken
"Raat" = Night
"Suhaani" = Pleasent
"Hum, Main" = I

"(Hum) Jaagay Raat Suhaani" = I am awaken in pleasent night

Pl. feel free to ask for any clarifications.

Thanks

जागी रात को नींद सुहानी सुहानी is a completely different sentence. Here the sleep is pleasant, and the night is awake. Repetition of सुहानी is just for the rhyme.
Awake night can mean anything: a refulgent night, a night full of activity, and so on. There can be hundreds of interpretations of "awake" night. For example, Stars keep awake and marching during the night, while we are asleep. Also while there is night in one part of the globe, there is day in another part, morning in another, noon in yet another part, and so forth.

With the context now clear, thanks to Lalit Sati Ji, the sentence can be translated as,
"The sweet sleep ended/ fleeted [abruptly] in the dead of night.", or
"The sweet sleep ended/ fleeted [abruptly] during the night."

In Hindi the sentence जागी रात को नींद सुहानी सुहानी can be re-written as
सुहानी सुहानी नींद रात को जागी or
सुहानी नींद रात को जागी or
रात को सुहानी सुहानी नींद जागी or
रात के समय बड़ी सुहानी नींद जागी
Note from asker:
Many thanks Now, this is interesting. Would I be right in thinking that if this were prose and not poetry or song lyrics, the same idea would be expressed as सुहानी रात जागती है for example?
Peer comment(s):

There was a typo in my explanation given above (It means, ept waking in the pleasant, beautiful night ) which may please be read as "It means, I kept waking in the pleasant, beautiful night".
