It is used in cooking. I think it's a spice. The word is probably Indian-origin (not sure abt the etymology, but it IS used in Indian/kashmiri dishes).

"Kashmiri Ver is an unusual spice mixture, in the form of small flat discs. It is a special blend of spices and comes in the form of flat round tikkas with a hole in its center. It is prepared in a manner unique to each household and is used in small amounts over many foods to give them a perceptibly Kashmiri flavor.
