Deborah Mends (asker) Nov 15, 2005:
Live and learn. I didn't know I could search the Proz glossary by word stem! I hope I can be forgiven for asking Proz answerers to confirm for me that the elec/mech tech is indeed similar here, I get paranoid about translation traps... :-)
Tony M Nov 15, 2005:
David's taken the words out of my mouth; searching for word stems is most productive, i'm almost certain we've had 'dtromperu' before, at least... And in this sort of case, I think you'll find the elec/mech technologies are quite similar
Deborah Mends (asker) Nov 15, 2005:
Thank you! I will start applying this right now as I continue to wade through this translation.
David Goward Nov 15, 2005:
Try searching for dtromp* (making sure that the "whole words" and "exact phrase" boxes are blank).
Deborah Mends (asker) Nov 15, 2005:
Hi Dusty! I did indeed check this in the glossary before asking the question, but the only entry I found for "dtrompage" was for electronic/electrical vocabulary and the connection with specifically "goupille" (which the glossary told me was a "pin") didn't seem certain enough to guess that the electrical vocabulary could successfully combine with the mechanical vocabulary. Hence my asking for help translating the entire expression. Unless I still need to work on some technique in searching the glossary that escapes me? :-)
Tony M Nov 15, 2005:
As DG points out, this has been asked several times before, a look in the glossary should help you...

locating pin

Lots of possibilities for "détrompage", i.e. foolproofing, keying, etc., which basically all mean the same thing. The tube bundle has a pin to ensure that it is inserted the right way round.

neutral Tony M : I agree with all you say, but don't you think that maybe 'locating' suggests getting it in the right PLACE, rather than merely ORIENTATION?

Errrr... no ;-). To borrow a Bourthism, there's plenty of ghits for "locating pin" although, admittedly, many refer to jack-type plugs.
