An aggregate data measure in which the value of each measurement is expressed as a proportion or as a ratio. In a proportion, the numerator is expressed as a subset of the denominator (for example, AMI patients who received aspirin within 24 hours before or after hospital arrival over all AMI patients). In a ratio, the numerator and denominator measure different phenomena (for example, the number of patients with central lines who develop infections divided by the number of central line days).

This is the total numbers of days a central line is in place for each patient in the intensive care unit (ICU). They are counted at the same time each day; each patient with one or more central lines at the time the count is performed is counted as one central line day.
