Used in the following sentence:

Operations that cause file I/O such as this are very expensive.

As you can see, this has nothing to do with money.
I know it is talking about the impact of operations on the system, but can't think of anything else than "負担が大きい" and would like to ask for your advice.

If this database is remote or has a large number of views, doing this just once is expensive, never mind doing it once for each view in the database.

Yes thank you. I seem to hear 重い in spoken language probably more frequently than I see it in formal written communication.
