Other factors that are often taken into consideration when setting the frequency of off-line washing include the weekly loading pattern (e.g. weekend shutdown), the economic trade-off between the extra capacity that is typically restored versus the 1-2 day outage required, the availability of demineralized water to conduct the wash, the cost of power required to perform the off-line wash and safe disposal of effluents.

A load pattern is the spatial distribution of a specific set of forces, displacements, temperatures, and other effects which act on a structure.
