Croatian term

administrativna zabrana na plaću

Croatian to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) Loan repayments
Was wondering if anyone had ever found an official UK Eng equivalent for this arrangement - it is not a practice which is commonly used in the UK.

These two definitions include all relevant elements.
PoveyTrans (X) (asker) Jul 3, 2008:
What is implied in the Croatian term? That the retention will be used to pay off a loan to a credit institution such as a bank (which is the case) or is it more generic than that?
PoveyTrans (X) (asker) Jul 3, 2008:
Good idea. Maybe sth like 'Income retention arrangement' to cover the administrative aspects....
Dubravka Hrastovec Jul 3, 2008:
Income retention možda?

attachment of salary / garnishment

Attachment of salary or garnishment

In Croatia it can be voluntary or involuntary, meaning that the employee may, at the request of a bank, have its salary attached (garnished) for the repayment of the loan. However, the Bank does not request it automatically. The borrower can also be free to repay the loan instalments and in case of default, the bank will request the his/her salary to be attached (garnished).

"in the event of an attachment of salary, enforced for a debt of an
official of the Organization, provided that such attachment results
from a final and enforceable decision in accordance with the rules and regulations in force on the territory of enforcement"

"If the debtor still does not pay, they will receive a County Court Judgement which remains on record. You may then take action to secure payment, including use of a bailiff to seize goods or a garnishment of salary."

"The seizing of a person's property, credit or salary, on the basis of a law which allows it, and for the purposes of paying off a debt.
The person who possesses the assets of the debtor and is the subject of the seizure is called a "garnishee".
This is frequently used in the enforcement of court awards and child support where delinquent debtors will be subjected to salary garnishment. A percentages of their wages is subtracted directly off their paycheque and directed to the person in need of support (the employer being the garnishee). "

Another example showing that these terms will be understood in the UK:

"You could also apply for an attachment of earnings, making an employer deduct regular sums from the defendant's salary, or a garnishee order to freeze the defendant's bank account."
