An employee may receive erroneous payments of pay and allowances, or reimbursement for travel, transportation, and relocation expenses and allowances, through an occasional administrative error. The Government normally files a claim against the employee to recover these erroneous payments.

The campus Office of Business and Financial Services is responsible for collecting past-due accounts receivable from employees (faculty, staff, or student) as well as from non-employees. If all reasonable efforts to collect or resolve such accounts fail, employees may be subject to deduction from their payroll check or other payments, and non-employees may be subject to deductions from amounts owed to them by the University or the State of Illinois.
