English to French Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc. Sociology and politics

In the sociology book that I'm translating (EN > FR), the word "commentator(s)" appears over two dozen times. I find it a bit challenging, because the author uses it to refer to a very broad class of people, who only have in common the fact that they voice comments publicly on current social and political issues - not just in newspapers, but also on Twitter/X, on YouTube, as guests invited on talk shows, etc. - and that they have a broad audience as they do so. My sense is that the author uses it to mean something like "pundits" - but without the "expertise" connotation.

So it would be overly restrictive to translate the term as "journalistes" or "experts"... but "commentateurs" is a bit vague and strange, and I feel it's most commonly associated with the field of sports in French. The closest match I've found so far would be "chroniqueur", but I'm still not very comfortable with it, as it doesn't cover random people with a large following on X for example.

If anyone has any genius idea, which wouldn't require the repeated use of a lengthy periphrase, please let me know!
