Estoy traduciendo un texto sobre fútbol americano y aparece esta expresión "on second and eight". ¿Alguien sabe qué significa? La he encontrado en varios textos, todos relacionados con el fútbol americano, pero no estoy segura de por dónde van los tiros.
Dejo algunos ejemplos:

Entonces, significa "on second down and eight yards to gain".
Para el down se emplea el término inglés, o bien "oportunidad":
"En el fútbol americano y canadiense, un down (en México se le conoce como oportunidad) hace referencia al tiempo en el que se lleva a cabo una jugada. [...]
