Der 3,0 l Sechszylinder Dieselmotor stellt neben dem bereits 2007 neu vorgestellten 2,0 l Vierzylinder Dieselmotor die zweite wesentliche Säule im Dieselmotorenprogramm der XY Group dar. Er kommt in verschiedenen Leistungsstufen in der Mehrzahl der XY Fahrzeugbaureihen zum Einsatz und leistet somit einen bedeutenden Beitrag zur Erfüllung zukünftiger weltweiter Anforderungen hinsichtlich Kraftstoffverbrauch und Abgasemissionen.
Um dem Familiengedanken hinsichtlich Konzeptgleichheit und Gleichbauteilen Rechnung zu tragen, wurde der Sechszylindermotor konsequent vom Vierzylinder abgeleitet. Neben einer Leistungs- und Drehmomentsteigerung von ca. 5 % konnte der Kraftstoffverbrauch um 4 % reduziert werden. Die verfügbaren Abgasnachbehandlungskonzepte stellen entsprechend den Anforderungen aus den Fahrzeugbaureihen die Einhaltung weltweiter Emissionsgrenzwerte über Laufzeit sicher. Der Ersteinsatz dieses neuen Motors erfolgte im September 2008 mit 180 kW und 520 Nm im 330d und mit 540 Nm im 730d. Beide Modelle erfüllen die EU5 Emissionsgrenzwerte, zusätzlich wird der 330d mit BluePerformance Technologie als EU6-Modell angeboten.

Der neue Sechszylinder-Dieselmotor (Bild 1) ist eine konsequente Ableitung vom Vierzylinder mit einem neu ausgelegten Grundmotor, einem aus Packagegründen (Erfüllung zukünftiger Fußgängerschutzanforderungen) nach hinten verlegten Kettentrieb, einer in den Ölsumpf verlagerten Vakuumpumpe und der Anordnung aller Nebenaggregate an der linken Motorseite. Damit wird an der rechten Motorseite der Bauraum für die motornahen Abgasnachbehandlungskomponenten und das Aufladeaggregat geschaffen. Am Zylinderkopf mit einer gegenüber dem Vorgängermotor um 29 mm reduzierten Bauhöhe und den parallel verlaufenden Einlasskanälen ist seitlich der sehr kompakt ausgeführte Luftsammler mit den integrierten Drallklappen angeflanscht. Unter der Akustikabdeckung ist im hinteren Bereich der motorfeste Ansauggeräuschdämpfer angeordnet. Zusätzlich zu den Bauraummaßnahmen wurde durch konsequente Bauteiloptierung das Motorgewicht gegenüber dem Vorgänger um weitere 5 kg reduziert. Das eingesetzte Common-Rail-Einspritzsystem der 3. Generation mit einem maximalen Einspritzdruck von 1800 bar beinhaltet eine neue Zwei-Stempel-Hochdruckpumpe und weiterentwickelte Piezo-Injektoren. Das Abgassystem mit dem heiß angebauten elektrischen Abgasrückführ(AGR)ventil, dem externen AGR-Kühler Bypass zur Maximierung der AGR-Temperaturspreizung ermöglicht in Verbindung mit den motorinternen Maßnahmen und dem neuen Einspritzsystem die Erfüllung der EU5 Emissionsgrenzwerte. Um die Instrumententafel (2) nicht im sichtbaren Bereich zu beschädigen, darf der Ausschnitt nur bis zur oberen Kante der Wulst (3) angebracht werden. Der weiter oben liegende Prallschutz wird beim Aufstecken des Halters zusammengedrückt.

Thereby the installation space is created at the right side of the engine for the exhaust gas-aftertreatment components lying close to the engine and for the recharging aggregate. The cylinder head consists of a head room, which is about 29 mm shorter than the preceding engine, and of parallel inlet ducts; at this cylinder head the very compact air collector with integrated swirl flaps is laterally flange-mounted. Below the acoustic covering the engine-proof suction noise absorber is fixed at the rear side. In addition to the installation space provisions the engine weight was reduced by a further 5 kg with respect to the preceding one through consequent optimization of the components. The 3.genetation Common-Rail-injection system with a maximum injection pressure of 1800 bar comprises of new two-punch-high pressure pump and advanced Piezo-injectors. In order not to damage the instrument panel (2) in the visible region, the clip may be fixed only upto the upper edge of the bulge(3). The bulging cover, located above it, is pressed together during the fitting of the holder.
The cutting in the instrument panel (2) must be done exactly below the edge (1). Only the bulge cover must me cut out and the base-bearer must not be damaged.
Instrument panel (2) has to be fixed according to dimensions with a suitable tool. The base plate H must be situated at the centre above the indicator switch (1).
