Source text - French Le Human Brain Project, lancé en 2013 et piloté par l’école polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, est l’un des projets sélectionnés par la Commission européenne dans le cadre de son programme sur les technologies futures et émergentes. Ce projet révolutionnaire allie plusieurs disciplines, dont les neurosciences, et tend à une meilleure compréhension du cerveau.
Le projet a pour ambition de créer une nouvelle technologie, les neurosciences du futur. Pour cela il est nécessaire d’élaborer des modèles informatiques à partir de l’ensemble des données de recherches qui existe actuellement. Il permet de centraliser toutes les données européennes en neurosciences, mais surtout il donne l’occasion aux scientifiques de parler le même langage. Le Human Brain Project permit d’intégrer non seulement les données, mais également l’expertise des scientifiques à travers le monde.
Il est très fréquent qu’un projet scientifique d’envergure soulève questions et débats. Les chercheurs sont sur la défensive quand il s’agit de partager leurs résultats. Ils sont tellement sous pression et programmés à publier en premiers qu’ils oublient la part la plus précieuse de la recherche qui consiste à partager ses résultats.
Le même problème s’était posé en astrophysique. Chaque chercheur avait ses propres instruments, son télescope personnel. Chacun voulait garder son propre équipement Aujourd’hui plus de la moitié des publications en astrophysique provienne de chercheurs qui analysent les résultats d’autre chercheurs. Ce n’est pas le cas en neurosciences, et ce manque de collaboration ralentit les progrès.
Le Human Brain Projet est un projet intégratif, par conséquent le but n’est ni de générer des données ni de développer le champ des neurosciences expérimentales. La principale vocation de ce projet est l’élaboration d’une science collaborative. Il ne s’agit pas de reproduire ce qui a déjà dans les laboratoires du monde entier. Il s’agit d’intégrer toutes les données de recherche, de créer un service communautaire, un outil de travail.

Today more of the half of the publications in astrophysics comes from researchers who analyze the results of other researchers. But this is not the case in neurosciences, and this lack of collaboration low down progress.
The Human Brain Project is an integrative project, so the goal is neither to generate data nor to develop the field of experimental neuroscience. The main purpose of this project is the development of a collaborative science. It's not about duplicating what is already available in laboratories all over the world. It is about integrating all data of research, creating a community service, a work tool.

Source text - English La négociation a beau être omniprésente dans la vie quotidienne, nous ne sommes pas tous de fins négociateurs. Les occasions ne manquent pas : avec ses enfants ou son patron, pour définir la destination de vacances avec son conjoint ou remporter un contrat commercial. Malgré ces multiples situations dans lesquelles nous devons exercer nos talents, nous n’avons toujours pas de boîte à outils qui ferait de nous de bons négociateurs.
Il y ceux qui foncent droit au but et ceux qui utilisent des chemins détournés. Certains mettent d’emblée la pression, d’autres utilisent la séduction ou l’empathie pour parvenir à leurs fins. Sans compter ceux qui insistent lourdement, au risque de susciter le rejet, à l’inverse de ceux qui lâchent trop tôt.
Les multiples façons de mener une négociation décrivent notre « assertivité », la manière dont nous nous y prenons pour défendre nos intérêts ou ambitions dans une discussion qui nous oppose à une autre partie, tout en prenant en compte les intérêts de celle-ci.
Vaut-il mieux jouer la partition de la compétition ou privilégier la coopération ? Tout l’art de négocier dépend de la capacité à adapter son attitude en fonction des situations. Les meilleurs leaders savent manier flexibilité et fermeté selon les besoins du moment. Certaines situations demandent une attitude directive, d’autres plus de souplesse.
Ce ne sont ni les négociateurs trop effacés, ni ceux qui au contraire se montrent trop acharnés, qui parviennent à convaincre le plus. Un négociateur trop combatif peut obtenir des résultats à court terme, mais risque de susciter des frustrations chez son homologue. A l’inverse, un négociateur pas assez combatif risque d’abandonner trop vite et de se retrouver avec un accord peu satisfaisant. Être arrangeant peu parfois aider à construire des relations durables, mais l’être trop peut aussi nuire à ces relations. Tout est question de juste milieu.

Is it better to play the partition of the competition or to favour cooperation? The art of negotiating depends on the capacity to adapt your attitude according to situation. The best leaders know how to handle suppleness and firmness according to the current needs. Some situations require a directive attitude, while others require more flexibility.
It is neither the two effaced negotiators, nor those who, on the opposing, prove to be too much pungent, who manage to persuade most. An overly combative negotiator can obtain short-term results, but may cause frustration among its peer. Conversely, a negotiator not aggressive enough may abandon too quickly and end up with an unsatisfactory agreement. Sometimes being a little accommodating can help build lasting relationships, but being too much accommodating can also hurt those relationships. It's all about balance.
