Is it ethical/allowed to close a job early?

I'm new to the job posting system, having agreed with a client that I would outsource a job that is outside my particular sphere of competence. So I posted a Proz job, initially saying that it was open for quotes for 48 hours - but after 24 hours I already have a large number of offers and have identified a very promising translator among them. Am I bound to keep the job open for the promised 48 hours, or can I declare it closed now and go with the translator I've found? - I can't find anything ... See more

Hi Armorel,
Short answer: no problem at all.

If you found the right provider, there's no point keeping the job open - in fact, any other providers might waste their time quoting.

Are you familiar with the functionality of the Outsourcer Control Center?

Actually you just HAVE TO close your job posting as soon as you've assigned it- to save yourself from receiving more applications and applicants from wasting time sending them to you.

I too rarely outsource.
I fully appreciate the point about wasting people's time.
However, I do believe that it is generally accepted that jobs tend to be allocated fairly quickly anyway.

I don't actually close a job until the chosen outsourcer has delivered the job, just in case there is a subsequent problem.

This is because I like to thank each "applicant" for their interest in the "decline" message, and I would not like to have to get back in touch later to say "er, actually, I know I turned you down but I'm in the **** here and would like to use your services after all".

So I don't decline anyone (although I do accept, of course) and I don't close the job until it is done.

But we are all different
