I saw on TV that they have a very rigorous screening procedure to select volunteers. All volunteers are at least bilingual, and must be able to multitask. They are expected to act more than just an interpreter.

about 2 mths ago, I saw on TV a special program about Olympics volunteers. Most applicants are college students and they all want to become volunteers. so there is no shortage of applicants and the competition is really tense. But I think they will get something in compensation. I remember when I worked as volunteer at the World conference on Women in 1995 in beijing, I received some compensation.

Well, I think it makes sense that they plan on mostly using internal resources to organize this big Olympic extravaganza. You can see that's what they intend to do from this educational manual. A lot of "skills" required are pretty elementary, I'd say. ... See more Well, I think it makes sense that they plan on mostly using internal resources to organize this big Olympic extravaganza.

chance,
I would say for an event like this, the issue of security would be the foremost concern. And we all know how strict and efficient the Chinese government is when it comes to doing background checks ... it's in their genes

chance,

Theoretically speaking, racial profiling or any other kind of profiling would be illegal. Of course this resulted in the pandemic of political correctness.
