clearwater,

You're right. It is exactly the opposite of “量力而行”。

这个说法的含义是:不能单单做你百分百掌握的事儿,必须勇于承担难度大、有可能失败的大任务。

应该搜索一些跟勇气有关的说法,比如:备勇当先。

I agree with Phil. 孤注一掷, 多多益善 etc.. also come to mind. But some of these terms have negative connotations.

Yeah. What's interesting is that "get in over your head" is normally negative. Rhetorically, Mayer is subverting the phrase. I have never been able to do that in Chinese - it requires a sensitivity to phrases that I haven't properly built up yet. I don't even know if it's possible in the same way. I think a straightforward positive 成语 would work well as a translation (Marvin's 迎难而上 is great), but I'd like to see if there is a way to match it exactly.

I agree. 孤注一掷 is as negative as I can think of. It typically is used in a not-so-complimentary way. But you can use it on yourself as Mayer did so in English.

迎难而上 is indeed a good choice, but like you said, it loses the self-deprecating quality of the English idiom "being in over one's head".

谢谢James!
其中一网友给出的如下解释:
The image comes from swimming. If you get into a swimming pool at the deep end, and you're not a strong swimmer, and the pool is deeper than you are tall, you might struggle. You'd be in "over your head", and you may even drown. Indeed, we often talk about people "drowning in debt".

感觉蛮生动形象的,学习了!

bang/beat/bash one's head against a brick wall
意为:以头碰壁;试图干不可能成功的事;试图获得不大可能得到的东西;枉费心机,白费力气

感觉正相反,从她的做法来看,是“强势控局”,从字面意思来看,get in over one's head是忽略内部不同意见,或者采用十分强势的方法“说服”对方,强迫别人接受自己的意见,所有决策都根据我的意见来定。
