English to Chinese: Christian Dior and Contemporary Art at the UCCA General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Advertising / Public Relations
Source text - English Christian Dior, a renowned and prestigious Couture House in the world, will invite some famous Chinese contemporary artists to develop and set-up an extraordinary exhibition in Beijing with John Galliano, the Artistic Director of Christian Dior. The exhibition will trace the House’s 61-year of avant-garde spirit in fashion, artistic creation, elegance and exceptional legacy.
The exhibition will also be an invaluable chance to confront and merge atmospheres of two cities – the fast-growing Beijing and the still-somewhere-baroque Paris. The exhibition will focus on a few main themes which symbolize the image of the Dior House and at the same time inspire the creation of the Chinese contemporary artists.
Among the exhibited items, there are not only the haute couture archive pieces of the Dior House, designed by Monsieur Dior and John Galliano, but also the artworks commissioned to the participant Chinese artists, who will be assigned with a specific theme in which they will be freely inspired and create without limitations. Part of the contemporary artworks will also be contributed from the private collections of Mr. Bernard Arnault, the Chairman of LVMH Group (Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton).
The exhibition will be held in the Ullens Center of Contemporary Art (UCCA) from 15th November 2008 to 15th January 2009. A grand opening ceremony will take place on the 14th of November 2008 with an exclusive dinner. The dinner will be hosted by Mr. Bernald Arnault and Mr. Sydney Toledano, the Chief Executive Officer of Christian Dior. 300 honorable international guests, including John Galliano, international celebrities and international fashion editors, will be invited to the dinner, to experience the Dior House’s couture legacy as well as the spirit of Chinese contemporary art.
Elegance, refinement, feminine luxurious and modernity have always been used to define Christian Dior. Christian Dior is one the most celebrated and successful couture houses in the world, having the ingenuity to express femininity in the modern history of fashion and at the same time maintaining significant associations with different forms of arts. The House has managed to dramatcially expand luxury craftsmanship into a prestigious industry.
In 1947, a chilly period after the World War II, Monsieur Christian Dior succeeded in creating a revolution in the fashion industry when he launched his first collection, the bar jacket – small-waisted jacket. The collection was worldwidely praised and was said to be a symbol of luxurious provocation. It was then quickly termed as “The New Look” and was Monsieur Dior’s claim to fame. Monsieur Dior continued to stun and inspire the world with his elegant designs for the next 10 years. The success of Christian Dior today is explained by its exceptional couture heritage developed by the House over 61 years, its haute couture making know-how as well as its leading talented designers.
Christian Dior has always been popular with the Hollywood jet set, glamorous stars and the world’s most stylist women, including Ava Gardner, Marlene Dietrich, Rita Hayworth, Madonna, the Duchess of Windsor and the late Princess Diana.
