Hypertension is generally defined as a
blood pressure greater than 140/90. The
first number (systolic) is the force that
blood exerts on the artery walls when the
heart is pumping. The second number
(diastolic) is the residual force that remains
when the heart relaxes between beats. Any
blood pressure reading below “high”—say,
a borderline 138/88—is safer, but you
should still try getting it down closer to
what’s considered normal, 120/80. That’s
because any elevation in blood pressure
raises your risk for heart attack and stroke.
About 50 million Americans have high
blood pressure, which is often called the
silent killer. While the condition itself
causes no symptoms, it sets the stage for a
heart attack or stroke. In the past few
decades, doctors and other health
professionals have made a big push to
detect high blood pressure and treat it more
aggressively, and the rate of heart attack
has indeed gone down. But the problem, in
my opinion, is that doctors are too quick to
treat this condition with synthetic drugs.
About half of the people diagnosed with
high blood pressure have borderline to
mildly high blood pressure. There’s plenty
of solid evidence that for them, diet and
lifestyle changes, including regular
exercise, stress management and selfmonitoring
with a home blood pressure
device, work just as well as drugs, with no
side effects. Diet and lifestyle
modifications all tend to provide a sense of
control that in itself may be beneficial.

Но проблемът според мен е, че лекарите
прекалено много бързат да предписват
синтетични медикаменти за това заболя-
ване. Около половината от хората с ви-
соко кръвно са на границата на нормал-
ното. Има много убедителни доказател-
ства, че за тях промените в режима на
хранене и начина на живот, включител-
но редовна физическа активност, спра-
вяне със стреса и самонаблюдение с
апарат за измерване на кръвното наляга-
не, действат не по-зле от лекарствата, и
то без странични ефекти. Освен това
промените в храненето и начина на жи-
вот създават чувство, че човек сам уп-
равлява съдбата си, а това само по себе
си може да бъде от полза.

Всички живи същества имат своя път върху вечно променящата се Земя, а онези от тях, които не са успявали да се приспособят към измененията на средата са оставяли своите кости в летописа, отстъпвайки място на други форми. Интригуваща, но и най-тъжна е историята на онези същества, които са се опитали да утвърдят своето господство над останалия свят.
Човек често има склонност да се обръща към миналото, защото там са скрити неговите корени и много негови съкровени тайни. В нашия космически век почти никой не се изненадва, когато чуе за „милиони светлинни години“, които ни отделят от други галактики. Вероятно това е така, тъй като в обикновената човешка представа разстоянието, изразено с понятието „светлинна година“, много често се свързва с бъдещето.
Произходът на живота е бил загадка за човечеството от незапомнени времена. Още със своята поява човек чрез труда си започва да се отделя от останалите живи същества. Но способността да си зададе въпроса „откъде сме дошли“ човек добива сравнително по-късно — преди 7—8 хиляди години, в началото на новокаменната епоха (неолита). Може би има нещо знаменателно в това, защото именно в началото на неолита хората напускат пещерите и започват да изграждат постоянни селища на открито. Пред взора на човека се е разкрил един свят, който му е бил само частично познат от ловните набези. Картината на околния свят започва непрекъснато да се обогатява, за човешкия разум се откриват нови хоризонти. За това спомага и зараждането на земеделието и занаятчийството.
Възникването на живота, включително и на извънземния живот, е не само възможно, но и неизбежно явление на всяка планета, която предлага подходящи условия за самоорганиизацияя и усложняване на материята в процеса на химичната еволюция.

Every living thing has its own path on Earth’s ever-changing face, and those who did not manage to adapt to the environmental changes left their bones in the annals, giving way to other forms. Most intriguing but also tragic is the story of those creatures who tried to assert their dominance over the rest of the world.
Man often tends to turn to the past because this is where our roots and many of our innermost secrets lie hidden. In our space age, almost no one is surprised when we hear about the “millions of light years” that separate us from other galaxies. Perhaps this stems from the fact that, in our common human notions, distance expressed in “light years” is very often associated with the future.
The origin of life has been a mystery to mankind since time immemorial. Since their very appearance on Earth, humans began separating themselves from the rest of the living beings through their labour. But the ability to ask ourselves “Where did we come from?” emerged relatively later – 7 to 8 thousand years ago, at the beginning of the New Stone Age (the Neolithic). Perhaps there is some emblematic significance in this, because it is at the beginning of the Neolithic when ancient people left the caves and began building permanent settlements in the open air. This way our ancestors discovered a world that they only partially knew from their hunting raids. The picture of the surrounding world was getting richer and richer, and new horizons opened up for the human mind. The newly emerged agriculture and crafts also helped to this purpose.
The emergence of life, including extraterrestrial life, is not only possible but also an inevitable phenomenon on any planet that offers suitable conditions for self-organization and complexity of matter in the process of chemical evolution.
