Yes, it's definitely an occupation/profession title on a character list in a book, so it's not a machine.

Does *he* have an English name? 1. Unlikely that this is a machine 2. the asker having the surrounding context 3. I'd already called up - and dimissed - brand names like Trim and Edge Master and 4. the suffix of Master in Germanic languages is inverted, so Bäckermeister in DEU goes to 'Master Baker'.
