Discussion

Port City Mar 6, 2015:
Twisted-yarn heather How about "twisted-yarn heather"? This expression is used to describe an Australian product in the link below:
http://www.sundancebeach.com/quiksilver-swell-bow-flannel-10...

This one also uses the same expression in the specs table:
http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/smaclo/item/10009033/
The corresponding Japanese page says 撚り杢糸使用.
http://item.rakuten.co.jp/smaclo/10009033/

Twisted-yarn fabrics are naturally lumpy (not smooth).

Context I'm afraid the sentence(s) don't provide much helpful context. It's for a booklet of clothing items for Fall/Winter 2015, and one line says: 好調だった粗杢は継続し,穿きやすい単品です。Another says: 2014FWで売上構成XX%と好調だった粗杢は継続し、キッズらしい明るいカラーや、カラーブロックで...
Does "heather" seem accurate here?
Takafumi Miyauchi Mar 6, 2015:
I think "heather" works in this context. "Slub" uses yarn of different thickness for an irregular appearance and is translated as "スラブ".

Would you tell me how this word was used in a sentence?
Shannon Morales (asker) Mar 6, 2015:
No English Google hits Thanks to Miyauchi-san and NorthernStar for your comments. Unfortunately, there are almost no hits on Google for "coarse grandrelle," and nearly all are from Japanese sites, mostly Weblio and SumoBrain. I'm wondering if it may relate to "heather" or "slub," but I've been unable to confirm it on my own. Any other ideas?

coarse grandrelle for 粗杢

This is a type of textile, usually referred to something made out of yarn.
「粗」(pronounce “a-la”)means its textile is roughly woven or coarse in touch.
「杢」(pronounce “mo-ku”)means its appearance has a mix of dark and lighter colors intertwined, just like the wood grain.
This 「粗杢」can be used as an adjective for a sweater. The sweater is woven by using the yarn that is made by two (or more) different shade-colors of yarns twisted together into one. Imagine the sweater that looks gray from the distance, but you will find looking closer, it has the two different shades such as dark gray and lighter gray.
I agree with Mr. Miyauchi's translation “coarse grandrelle” for「粗杢」
Example sentence:

She is wearing a coarse cotton grandrelle yarn coat.
