I especially don't know what is 機制 but also am not sure of the 'gist' of the sentence, possibly because I'm not sure of that word.
Is this a mistaken Kanji or is there really a word 機制 ?
I believe it should be something like
"Clearly it could be said that women are experts at denial for dealing with unexpressed emotions."
Am I on the right track?

機制 is the same as 機構 (as per 岩波書店の広辞苑). So the whole sentence could be "It could be said that women are clearly experts at using denial mechanisms as a method for dealing with unexpressed emotions."
