Solitaire, desperately for lack of an alternative

A card game called Solitaire, which is also called “patience.” (Agree with Nicholas. See aslo Wikipedia, et al)
Here it means; really (negative), badly, deadly, desperately
しょうことなしの=against one’s will, for lack of na alternative
暇潰し=time killing

Tentative Translation:
As they call it Solitaire or a card game of patience, it was a desperate time killer for lack of an alternative.

Hope it helps.
