Japanese term

三元スパッタ装置

Japanese to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general)
Unfortunately I cannot provide much context, as the term comes up in a list of machinery and devices owned by a research facility. All I can say is that the research includes ZnO single crystal wafers.

List: ホール効果測定装置、分子線エピタキシー装置、三元スパッタ装置

ternary sputtering equipment

You can see 三元スパッタ装置 sample on the page,
http://www.anelva.co.jp/products/r-d/index.html

「平行平板型 スパッタリング装置」 is one of 三元スパッタ装置.

You can also see its English version on, http://www.anelva.co.jp/english/products/r-d/index.html#SPAT...

As mentioned here,
「三元」refers to "a multi-dimensional simultaneous sputtering function that discharges three different materials at the same time."

agree Kurt Hammond : Excellent resources, but the product name still appears to be somewhat "japlish" - like they made up the English version of the product from 直訳. I think there must be another more natural sounding name in English :-)

Yes, I think so. This English page might have been translated by a Japanese person.

three dimensional spatter device

This is not so much a translation as a description of what I think this is.
There are traditional two dimensional spatter devices which are used to put spatter on walls, for instance. (That's the textured pattern you see). Then there are probably three dimensional devices designed to spatter onto 立体 parts. One example I can think of is the business class seats on the new Boeing 777s. They have a metal part with a spatter pattern (like you see on walls ) and they are definitely three dimensional. It's sprayed on somehow.

This is just a guess, but it sounds like that's what this is referrng to.

Thanks,
