Japanese term
折ぐせ
Japanese to English
Tech/Engineering
Construction / Civil Engineering
safety equipment
The subject matter is safety belts. The issue is when the safet belt is bent sharply for an extended period of time, or many times, this point becomes permanently bent unless you straighten it by force. This makes this point weaker. We also speak of "origuse" on a sheet of paper when you make origami and make fold marks, for instance.
What is the English expression for this, or is there any?
KudoZ is "kuseninarisou." Oops, this is a wrong kuse. Don't answer this one!

Hello, Yuki-san,
I don't think a 'kink' necessarily requires twisting, but how about these simple alternatives?
* crease
* fold mark (would be most-suited to paper, though), or
* bend mark
I think "crease" might work well for most materials.

Note from asker:
Thnak you very much Kathy. But kink is something else, at least in Japanese. A tight loop exerts a twisting force to a rope to cause a kink. Origuse is caused by a simple bending; no twisting. My document has a separate entry for kink. If you don't come up with the word for origuse, maybe there is no word for it in English or kink covers the same kind of thing? |

: Crease is good but I think that, whatever the dictionary says, 'kink' would work.

Comment: "Thank you, Kathy, and everyone else. I will go for "crease." I am pretty sure that we differentiate betweenキンク and 折ぐせin Japanese. But it seems that the English word, kink, covers a wider meaning. "
