Japanese term

すり合わせ会議

Japanese to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) Meeting term
This term is used to describe a meeting where various parties come together to bounce ideas off each other and arrive at a single decision. I understand the idea, but I can't think of what this would be called in English. Any ideas? All i can think of so far is just to make it obvious from the sentence and avoid translating directly...

勝手な“思い込み”は、確認作業の徹底で防ぐことが可能だが、確実に防ぐために作業終了後の「すり合わせミーティング」を必ず実施する。

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com May 8, 2004:
more info For this context, there is one guy who has to document the work of two other guys. one guy is an installer and the other guy is the designer of the part being installed. The documenter guy has to write a manual detailing this process for millions of other installers to read. The suriawase is to make sure the documenter has got it right before publishing it.

Thanks,

verification meeting

The term すり合わせ would be best explained by "brainstorming" or "butting heads together" as suggested by Hamo-san and Maynard, but I don't think it would work very well in the translation.

The meeting seems to be for the purpose of checking the final content and coming to an agreement with the two who were involved in the design, so they are, in a sense, verifying the writer's work and explanations for accuracy.

a brainstorming session

This is one possibility.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Maynard Hogg : That was my guess from the English, but the context is after the fact.

Actually I agree with you, but I assumed that the asker knew better than what the contents of his text suggested.

group consensus meeting

Basically in this sentence they are talking about avoiding unilateral decisions by one person, without getting the consensus of the group. If it were me, I would probably say "group consensus meeting," or do as you said, and explain it within the sentence without using a specific term.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Maynard Hogg : Meeting OK, but "group consensus" smacks of a literal translation of a six-kanji string full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

(design) review

In the process of developing something;
"すり合わせ" is "coordination" or "design study"

After developing;
"すり合わせ" means "design review"
Peer comment(s):

neutral Maynard Hogg : You're translating words, not meaning.

agree Roddy Stegemann : Based upon the askers further comment, this is the best so far.

Bang heads together

Patti's on the right track. Instead of translating the term, follow the Japanese original's approach of explaining around it. (I assume that the description has more than just the sentence quoted, so all the easier.)
