: It's surely has the nuance "heart to heart" or "honestly", but here you can judge from the expression "場所的な制約より", it means meet people directly.

This is a common cliche that average Japanese businessmen would use almost daily basis.
It refers to a negotiation or similar communication style in very intense, yet open and quite possibly friendly atmosphere.
Used interchangeablly with 膝を交えて.

I initially gave an agree to Susan Koyama-Steele but on second thoughts, it's not really an appropriate expression for a business context.
I think it would be more suitable to use an expression such as 'to discuss honestly and openly/frankly', etc.
