When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

humbird Oct 2, 2005:
YES, three shifts, four shifts are all possible in one plant. More shifts mean more demands, translated immediately to profits. For business standpoint certainly four-shifts can be a goal. Practicality is another issue (out of space).
Eden Brandeis (asker) Oct 2, 2005:
Not shift but plant? I found additional places where 3tғ is used in the document. What perplexes me is that 4tғ is also used as a future goal. Is it possible to have four shifts in a day? It seems that three eight-hour shifts is the practical limit in this universe. Or is it four six-hour shifts? Four six-hour shifts seems inefficient and unlikely in industry.

This translation is for the automotive industry. Is it possible that a single production facility could have multiple plants. This would allow the translation to be "three plants running at full production" or "four plants running at full production." Does anyone have additional comments or suggestions based on this new information? Thank you.

full-time operation, three shifts per day

Empty explanation to satisfy ProZ programmer: Hardly a pro question.
Note from asker:
I usually select "Pro" status even for "easy" questions since "Non-Pro" has "a question for language learners" as the description. BTW - Why did you set your confidence so low for your response?

<<Is it possible that a single production facility could have multiple plants.>> I think yes. Usually automobile works have multiple production lines for different types of vehicle.

For shifting, I even saw 4直(3交代)勤務体制(4 shifts with 3 groups, I guess) somewhere.
I think it's better to ask your agent/client to clarify such questions.

Thank you for the excellent reference material. I will check my dictionaries for this entry on Monday since I don't have them with me right now. Perhaps it is time to invest in a new dictionary for business terms.
