Japanese term

道場

Japanese to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks Automotive
I chanced upon the term 道場 in the document pertining to Vehicle Quality assurance . Though the general meaning is means something like a training studio., the ocurrence of the term in the quality assurance document is bit confusing. One of the contexts it appears in is 標準作業にならない作業のビジュアル化/道場. Please help me understand the meaning in this context .

道場 is a practice place. So, I assume it's used somewhere in that line - a place to practice visualisation.
Helen, can you give us more examples where the term is used? With more examples, it will be easier to determine how to render it.

speculating on what's behind the term... To me 標準作業にならない作業のビジュアル化/道場 brings to mind a digital imaging system with which to represent iteratively the non standard action sequence of a programmable robotic arm, and through this visual feedback, identifying the time points of that action sequence causing the problem and focusing on how best to modify these motion instructions to meet the standard (perhaps with a good deal of trials and errors). If so, the comparison with 道場 with endless repeats of a movement until it flows right and to max. effect, would make sense. So what's at work here? replay, exploration of selected variations from the given situation, simulations, tentative adjustments, and final proofing. The best would be a short colorful in-house term that reflects that laborious and frustrating routine, something like 'the practice mat' :-). But of course it would not work for outsiders, and we need something objectively descriptive ... so, ..."simulation room"? : -)
