In this document I have, I thought about several different words to use for 適合, like consistency, matching, conformance, conformity, etc. But none of them seemed right. The document is about engine development.

So I found the information below online. According to the online information, in this case 適合 is the name of a process. I think that's why none of the words I had seemed to fit.

Is anyone familiar with the エンジン適合 process, and know what this should be called? I appreciate your help.

自動車開発の新しい流れ～定常適合⇒過渡適合
現在開発を進めているNew Bench systemは、**主にエンジンのECU開発における「適合」と呼ばれるプロセスで使用する事を目的としています。**
ECUは、自動車のエンジン等をコンピュータ制御する電子制御装置であり、例えばエンジンにおいては、吸入する空気量にあわせて燃料噴射量を制御したり、圧縮された混合気を燃焼させるための点火タイミングを制御していますが、**適合とは様々な速度やトルクを想定したエンジン制御テストを繰り返す事で、ECUがエンジンを最適に制御できるようチューニングするプロセスを指します。**
適合を行うためには、従来は速度や負荷が一定の状態で数百パターンの計測を行い（定常計測）、各テストごとに得られたデータをもとにECUのチューニングを行っていました（定常適合）。しかし、環境問題や開発競争の激化から、より様々なケースを想定してテストを行う事が必要となってきており、適合プロセスに膨大な時間と労力がかかるようになってきました。
