deploy / not deploy (SWITCH PART OF SPEECH)

This is a classic case where, depending on the context, you may want to switch the part of speech. "Deployment" [of the airbag] is OK, but mimicking the Japanese syntax to obtain something like "determines deployment and non-deployment" is atrocious stylistically in English. In most cases, you should restructure the sentence to obtain to a verb.

e.g. X determines whether the airbag will not be deployed.
e.g. If Y happens, the airbag will not be deployed.

And explode is definitely wrong unless you are talking about malfunctions.

Note, most would agree you can use "will deploy / will not deploy" above (active instead of passive), though that is less critical than avoiding the noun structure.

Finally, if you absolutely have to use a noun for the negative form, consider "failure to deploy."

Exploding Airbag Injury Lawyer Serving Los Angeles

Most cars on the roads have a driver's side airbag, and some motor vehicles have multiple airbags on the passenger side, on the side-walls and in the back seats. When an auto accident occurs in Los Angeles, airbags are supposed to deploy in less than a quarter of a second where it then cushions and slows the impact of the passengers. However, in most cases, airbags deploy too late, fail to deploy or explode where they cause additional serious injuries. Exploding airbags are the major product defect which cause serious burns to the car passenger's face. When someone has suffered injuries resulting from an exploding airbag, it is necessary for them to contact an exploding airbag attorney.

Sorry, Joyce, I do not agree. Read the above passage. "Inflate rapidly" is the correct term. Exploding means it breaks, the air leaks out, and the cushioning effect is wrong. Maybe your websites are also "translations"? Maybe some do use "explode" but that will cause ambiguity: is it a good thing or something that induces lawsuits?

Sorry for typo: I meant "cushioning effect is lost" (not "wrong"). Anyhow, I don't want to get into an argument about "explode". I'm just strongly suggesting that a verb be used instead of "non-deployment".
Peer comment(s):

neutral Joyce A : Hi dchild. I did mention "failure to deploy" in my answer as non-deployment. Also, the bag actually does "explode" since a propellant is ignited to inflate the airbag. It is purposely intended to "explode" in a positive sense. (Pls see airbag websites)

Inflate & Deflate

Because airbag sensors measure deceleration, vehicle speed and damage are not good indicators of whether an airbag should have deployed. ...

deployment & non-deployment / exploding & non-exploding

It's hard to translate without more context but here are my interpretations:

起爆する is defined as “to explode” “to set off” (Shougakukan J-E Dictionary)

1) When an airbag is “deployed” it spreads out (explodes/gets set off) and performs its safety function. (although propellants are "ignited" inside the airbag inflator for the process, I think the word "deploy" expresses the overall function.)

2) When there is “non-deployment” the airbag does not inflate to perform its safety function.

If we're literally talking about the "exploding" of the airbag, it can be exploding/non-exploding (failure to explode) Please see sample sentence below which uses this wording.

Sample sentences:
In the Mercedes system, the sensors would automatically pre-tension the seat belts to reduce occupant's motion on impact (now a common feature), and then deploy the airbag on impact.

Variable force deployment front airbags were developed to help minimize injury from the airbag itself.
Today, airbag triggering algorithms are becoming much more complex. They try to reduce unnecessary deployments (for example, at low speed, no shocks should trigger the airbag, to help reduce damage to the car interior in conditions where the seat belt would be an adequate safety device), and to adapt the deployment speed to the crash conditions.

Failure to explode: Unfortunately, some airbags fail to explode at all. This can result due to a defective sensor or improper packing. In addition, it is illegal to repack an airbag. Once the airbag explodes it must be replaced.

Thank you for giving me credit, too, Gouranga. ;-)
Example sentence:

(1) non-deployment cases (where the airbag fails to deploy);

While EDR data is vital to determining the cause of an air bag non-deployment, air bag control modules could themselves be the cause of non-deployment under certain circumstances.

Note from asker:
Thanks Joyce ! Your answer is correct too ! But I can only choose one answer !
