I see a problem (difficulty) is that what is referred to as 平面 is not really a flat surface. I took it to be a view, or what you can see. Maybe you can come up with a better word, but does this idea work?

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I agree that 平面 does not indicate a flat surface or line here. I wonder if it might not mean something like 'area' or 'layout'.
