The "continuous" is only there to boost the word count. By that logic, one should use "in a row"--three words instead of one!

: By definition, if the grass fails to survive, it dies and cannot survive further. If the grass survived three nonconsecutive summers with replanting, saying it "survived three summers" would be misleading, especially since many grasses are perennial.
