ineffective
Based on the explanation of the term in Italian
http://it.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=2008082511335... I'd say ineffective:
i.e. to prevent a future judgement in ordinary proceedings from being ineffective for the intervening harm suffered (not sure what "alle sue ragioni" means here)

or "in order to avoid a future judgement in ordinary proceedings being ineffective for the harm suffered in the meantime"

pointless
based on the Latin meaning. Not so much ineffective as a waste of time - the judgment comes too late to be of any use, since in the meantime the damage has been done. There may be a technical term for this, however, which escapes me
Note from asker:
Thanks Simon, yes that's the meaning I'd found of inutiliter, but I wasn't sure about "pointless" in a legal document... |
