Crosstalk is a type of Interference from an adjacent channel or wire, which is caused by electromagnetic interference, along a circuit or a cable pair. A telecommunication signal disrupts a signal in an adjacent circuit and can cause the signals to become confused and cross over each other.

Az a jelenség, hogy egy áramkörön átvitt jel (pl. beszéd, távíró stb.) idegen áramkörön észlelhető. Az áthallás érthető, ha egyforma felépítésű áramkörök, pl, két hangfrekvenciás áramkör között lép fel, különben (pl. egy hangfrekvenciás és egy vivőfrekvenciás áramkör között) érthetetlen. Az érthető károsabb, mert rontja az összeköttetés titkosságát és elvonja a beszélgetők figyelmét. Az áthallás mértéke az áthallási csillapítás és az átthallási védettség. Az áthallást közelvéginek - nevezik, ha a zavaró jel és az áthallott jel terjedési iránya különböző, és távalvéginek, ha a két terjedési irány különböző.
